Fillings

Cavities are most commonly the result of tooth decay, which can occur if plaque and tartar are left to build up in the mouth, resulting in the presence of damaging bacteria which can dissolve and weaken the surface of the tooth.

In most cases, fillings can be placed in just one appointment. The length of this appointment will depend on the damage present and the number of fillings that are necessary.

There’s no need to worry about pain or discomfort during the treatments, as we’ll always apply a numbing agent to the area, ensuring you don’t feel a thing while we’re treating you.

After numbing the area, we’ll remove the decayed and damaged parts of the tooth and clean and disinfect the area. We’ll then apply the filling material and seal the tooth to prevent any reinfection and strengthen the tooth.

Traditionally, fillings have been made of a metal amalgam material that is very strong and durable but leaves a silver-like appearance in the mouth. At Rothwell Dental Care and Implant Centre, we use the most modern materials available whenever possible, so we often place composite fillings. These are made of a composite resin material that mimics the shade and surface of the tooth and can be shaped into a natural-looking appearance.
