An inlay is designed to fill a gap or hole in the tooth, much like a filling.
With inlays and onlays, we can restore damaged and broken teeth using a minimally invasive method that leaves behind a totally natural-looking finish.
Sometimes used as an alternative to fillings or crowns, inlays and onlays are a more minimally invasive option and are created bespoke for the individual patient and applied by our skilled team. Fulfilling different functions, we can confirm at consultation whether or not this is the correct treatment for you.
FAQs
What is an inlay?
How is an inlay different to a filling?
Inlays perform a very similar function to fillings but can be used on a larger surface area. This means they’re more suitable when repairing those teeth at the back of the mouth, as well as in some cases where a previous filling might have failed.
What is an onlay?
Onlays are more similar to crowns but require a less invasive application process. They are designed to repair the damage done to the cusp of the tooth and are bonded to the tooth’s natural surface, leaving it not only repaired and restored but also stronger and better protected.
How long is the treatment time?
In most cases, both inlays and onlays are applied over two separate appointments.
Is the treatment painful?
As with all our restorative treatments, we’re able to numb the area being treated to ensure you’ll be pain-free and comfortable throughout the application process.
